UConn rallies to earn spot in Final Four

Apr 2, 2008 - 7:39 AM GREESBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Renee Montgomery and Ketia Swanier scored 15 points apiece as top-seeded Connecticut rallied to overcome No. 2 Rutgers, 66-56, in the championship game of the Greensboro Regional on Tuesday night.

Kalli McLaren added 10 points for the Huskies (36-1), who trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half against their Big East Conference arch-rival.

Connecticut will play Stanford in the Final Four on Sunday in Tampa, Florida. Tennessee and Louisiana State meet in the other game.

Matee Ajavon scored 18 points for Rutgers (27-7), which bolted to a 25-11 lead and took a 32-27 advantage into halftime.

A layup by Ajavon made it 41-34 with 12:45 left before the Huskies started their comeback.

Swanier and Montgomery hit 3-pointers to spark the comeback and star freshman Maya Moore connected from the arc to put UConn ahead for good, 52-49, with 2:55 to go.

The Huskies closed it out by hitting their final 12 shots from the free-throw line, including six in a row by Swanier.
