Fowles, No. 10 LSU overwhelm Howard
Nov 14, 2006 - 4:12 AM BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Howard had no answers for Sylvia Fowles.A 6-6 junior center, Fowles scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to spark 10th-ranked Louisiana State to an 88-44 rout of Howard in the Basketball Travelers Classic.
It was the 36th career double-double for Fowles, who notched her 1,000th career point.
Fowles played just 19 minutes and hit 7-of-13 shots as the Tigers (2-0) raced to a 43-20 lead and and never looked back. She had six points in LSU's game-opening 9-0 run.
The Tigers owned an overwhelming 56-27 advantage on the backboards and a 27-6 margin on second-chance points.
Quianna Chaney scored 12 points, Porsha Phillips added 11 and Mesha Williams 10 for LSU. The trio combined to shoot 16-of-28.
The Tigers converted 20 turnovers by the Bison (0-2) into 22 points.
Christina Aden scored 16 points for Howard, which shot 26 percent (14-of-55) from the field.
