Hampton helps No. 19 California roll by Florida
Nov 18, 2006 - 4:39 AM MALIBU, California (Ticker) -- Devanei Hampton made the best of her opportunity.Hampton collected 19 points and nine rebounds off the bench to help 19th-ranked California coast to an 88-60 triumph over Florida in the opener of the Timeout for HIV/AIDS Tip-off Classic.
A native of Oakland, Hampton connected on 6-of-9 shots and made 7-of-10 free throws, and also blocked two shots in just 13 minutes.
Ashley Walker had 17 points and eight rebounds and Alexis Gray-Lawson added 13 points for the Golden Bears (2-0), who led by as many as 25 points in the opening half before settling on a 48-27 lead at intermission.
The Gators (1-2) never challenged in the second half.
Lauren Greif and Keanna Levy combined to register 20 points and 15 rebounds for California, which shot 64 percent (37-of-57) from the field and held a 46-25 advantage on the boards.
Marsha Dotson scored 14 points and Sha Brooks chipped in 11 for Florida, which shot just 32 percent (20-of-62) and forced 24 turnovers.
