Hampton leads California past Belmont
Nov 25, 2006 - 12:03 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Devanei Hampton scored 15 points and Ashley Walker added 14 and seven rebounds as No. 17 California posted a 69-52 victory over Belmont in the first round of the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving tournament.Playing just 21 minutes, Hampton was 6-of-9 from the field. She had a pair of buckets in a 16-0 run that erased an early 11-8 deficit and gave the Golden Bears (4-0) control.
Lauren Greif made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points for the Golden Bears, who shot 48 percent (23-of-48) and 6-of-12 from 3-point range.
Alysha Clark scored 13 points for Belmont (2-2), which shot just 35 percent (18-of-51) and had 20 turnovers. Clark was the only Bruin in double figures.
Cal will play No. 14 Vanderbilt in Saturday's championship game. Belmont will take on Florida Atlantic in the consolation game.
