No. 8 Georgia holds on for thrilling win over Stanford

Nov 27, 2006 - 12:08 AM ATHENS, Georgia (Ticker) -- Cori Chambers and Georgia had just enough to continue their unbeaten start.

Chambers scored 21 points and Megan Darrah added 15 for the eighth-ranked Lady Bulldogs, who claimed a 74-69 victory over No. 11 Stanford.

Chambers shot 8-of-13 from the field with two 3-pointers for Georgia (5-0), which held a 66-55 advantage with 6:20 remaining.

Led by eight points by Candice Wiggins, the Cardinal (2-3) ripped off a 10-0 run to close within 66-65 with 3:32 left. However, Stanford could get no closer as it absorbed its second loss in three days, having also fallen to No. 4 Tennessee on Friday.

Ashley Houts made four free throws and Janese Hardrick added two in the final 30 seconds for the Lady Bulldogs, who played with only seven players as junior forward Tasha Humphrey continued to serve her six-game suspension for violating team rules.

Hardrick scored 14 points and Rebecca Rowsey pulled down 12 rebounds for Georgia, which shot 45 percent (24-of-53).

Wiggins finished with 24 points and Brooke Smith added 19 for the Cardinal, who made just 3-of-12 free throws.
