Vaughn, Rutgers overpower Princeton

Dec 10, 2006 - 6:00 AM PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Rutgers' second home game helped wipe out the memory of the first.

Kia Vaughn scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 21 Rutgers to a 76-51 victory over Princeton.

The win salvaged a tough week for the Scarlet Knights (3-4), who were blown out by Duke, 85-45, in their home opener Monday and lost at DePaul, 87-73, on Thursday.

There were no such problems against Princeton as the 6-4 Vaughn dominated inside and the three-guard backcourt of Essence Carson, Epiphanny Prince and Matee Ajavon combined for 10 steals and helped force 23 turnovers, which led to 26 points.

Vaughn finished 12-of-16 from the field as the Scarlet Knights shot 53 percent (31-of-59) while outrebounding the Tigers, 34-26.

Prince scored 19 points and Ajavon added 14 for Rutgers, which led, 37-26, at halftime.

Meagan Cowher, the daughter of Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, led the Tigers (3-6) with 16 points.
