Dixie State 7, S. Utah 36

Sep 15, 2009 - 9:36 PM CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Cade Cooper passed for 179 yards and two touchdowns, and Austin Minifee rushed for 147 yards, leading Southern Utah to a 36-7 win over Dixie State on Thursday.

Cooper completed 16 of 19 passes, including touchdown passes of 3 and 6 yards to Fesi Sitake.

Minifee led a dominating rushing game for the Thunderbirds (1-0), who outgained the Red Storm (1-1) on the ground 244-53.

Sitake had eight receptions for 91 yards, while Jared Ursua had five catches for 66 yards and a 10-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Ammon Olsen.

Ryan Griffith kicked field goals of 20, 21, 23, 32 and 37 yards, as Southern Utah scored on all eight trips into the red zone.

The game marked the first meeting between the two teams in 47 years. Southern Utah defeated Dixie State 6-2 in 1962, when both schools were junior colleges.
