Alcorn State holds off Jackson State 14-7

Nov 22, 2009 - 12:52 AM JACKSON, Miss.(AP) -- Tim Buckley threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and Alcorn State made them stand up in a 14-7 victory over Jackson State in both team's season finale on Saturday.

Buckley, who was 9-for-20 for 207 yards, hit Edward Johnson on a 72-yard scoring pass and Antonio DeJarnett for a 66-yard touchdown for a 14-0 lead with 9:47 left in the first quarter.

The Braves (3-6, 3-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) held Jackson State (3-7, 3-4) to minus-12 yards rushing. The Tigers also committed 16 penalties for 162 yards.

Trae Rutland was 13-for-19 for 208 yards and Dedric McDonald was 2-for-4 for 25 yards, but Jackson State's quarterbacks threw an interception and were sacked four times.

Rutland threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Mayes with 1:58 left in the first half.

Arnold Walker led Alcorn State with 99 yards on 28 carries.
