Cousins lifts North over South in Senior Bowl

Jan 29, 2012 - 1:24 AM Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - Michigan State's Kirk Cousins completed 5-of-11 passes for 115 yards, one touchdown and an interception, lifting the North to a 23-13 victory over the South in the 63rd Senior Bowl.

Wisconsin's Russell Wilson connected on 4-of-7 passes for 45 yards, one touchdown and an interception for the North. Boise State's Kellen Moore completed 6-of-12 passes for 50 yards.

Arizona State wide receiver Gerell Robinson caught two passes for 64 yards and a score. Cincinnati's Isaiah Pead led the way on the ground with 31 yards on eight carries. He also returned two punts for 98 yards en route to winning the game's MVP award.

Arizona's Nick Foles completed 11-of-15 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown for the South. San Diego State's Ryan Lindley connected on 10-of-21 passes for 103 yards and an interception. Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden completed 5- of-9 passes for 56 yards and two interceptions.

Arkansas wide receiver Joe Adams hauled in six passes for 116 yards, while Arizona's Juron Criner caught six passes for 77 yards and a score. Mississippi State's Vick Ballard carried the ball seven times for 29 yards.

The North was coached by Leslie Frazier and his staff from the Minnesota Vikings, while the South was directed by Mike Shanahan and his staff from the Washington Redskins.

The first quarter featured a pair of field goals and three turnovers. The South got the ball to start the game and Adams fumbled on third play.

The North used Washington's Chris Polk to move the ball to the nine-yard line. Purdue's Carson Wiggs made a 27-yard field goal to make it 3-0.

The South responded with a 10-play, 64-yard drive. Tight end Brad Smelley's 24-yard catch and Terrance Ganaway's 15-yard run helped set up Randy Bullock's 39-yard field goal.

Wilson and Weeden were each picked off on back-to-back series. The North quickly moved the ball into the red zone, with the help of Robinson's 23-yard catch on the first play. California wide receiver Marvin Jones caught an eight-yard TD pass on the first play of the second stanza to make it 10-3.

Bullock and Wiggs each made field goals before the half was over, making it 13-6 in favor of the North at the break.

The North started the second half with an eight-play, 80-yard scoring drive. NC State wideout T.J. Graham caught a 22-yard pass on third down to keep the drive alive. Robinson recorded a 41-yard catch-and-run for a score on 3rd- and-4 to make it 20-6.

The South moved the ball to the 13 later in the third quarter, but Foles' pass fell incomplete on fourth down.

The South made things interesting with an 11-play, 57-yard scoring drive that bridged the final two periods. The South converted a trio of third downs during the march, which Criner capped with a 20-yard field goal to make it 20-13.

Wiggs added a 28-yard field goal with 4:11 left to account for the final margin.

Game Notes

The South claimed a 24-10 victory in last year's Senior Bowl and leads the all-time series, 30-27-3. There were actually three games played as the AFC vs. NFC, and the former won two of those encounters...Adams was named the most outstanding player for the South. Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner had seven tackles and an interception to win most outstanding player honors for the North.
