No. 1 Alabama rolls past Missouri
Oct 14, 2012 - 3:39 AM Columbia, MO (Sports Network) - Eddie Lacy carried the ball 18 times for a career-high 177 yards and three touchdowns, as the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide cruised past the Missouri Tigers, 42-10.T.J. Yeldon rushed for 144 yards and two scores on 18 carries for the Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 SEC), who were coming off a bye week.
AJ McCarron, who completed 16-of-21 passes for 171 yards, hurt his right knee while being sacked in the third quarter. He played through the injury with a brace on his knee.
Corbin Berkstresser connected on 12-of-29 passes for 126 yards and two interceptions for the Tigers (3-4, 0-4), who fell to 0-13 all-time against the top-ranked team in the country.
Missouri had just three rushing yards, compared to 362 for Alabama.
"Alabama's a great football team. They dominate everybody they play," Missouri coach Gary Pinkel admitted. "That being said, I still think we should have played better. That's my feeling."
Alabama got the ball to start the game and wasted little time in getting on the board. On the second play, Lacy ripped off a 73-yard run for a touchdown.
Lacy found the end zone again after Berkstresser was picked off by Vinnie Sunseri at midfield. Kenny Bell's 44-yard catch set up Lacy's 3-yard TD run, making it 14-0 midway through the first quarter.
The Crimson Tide kept the momentum going with a blocked punt. Alabama recovered the ball at the Missouri 17-yard line. Yeldon carried the ball three straight times, with his final touch resulting in a 1-yard score.
"We always say special teams [are] one of the main weapons we have on this team and we have to use that weapon," Bell said of the blocked punt. "Special teams came up big for us today."
Alabama continued to roll early in the second stanza, as Yeldon ran down the right sideline and stretched the ball over the right pylon. The 15-yard score was the last play before a 38-minute weather delay.
The Crimson Tide made the extra point after the delay to make it 28-0.
Missouri, however, got a 98-yard return for a touchdown from Marcus Murphy on the ensuing kickoff.
The Tigers got the ball back after Lacy fumbled near midfield. Missouri failed to convert on 3rd-and-10 and was forced to punt.
Missouri was given another chance to get back in the game after Alabama punter Cody Mandell dropped a perfect snap. The Tigers took over at Alabama's 34-yard line and L'Damian Washington quickly hauled in a 24-yard pass. But on 3rd- and-8, Berkstresser lost the football while being sacked.
Andrew Baggett made a 41-yard field goal on Missouri's first possession of the second half. The remainder of the third period was filled with punts.
Lacy and Kenyan Drake each recorded rushing touchdowns in the fourth to account for the final margin.
