Unbeaten Baylor batters Kansas

Oct 27, 2013 - 3:56 AM Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryce Petty threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another as sixth-ranked Baylor matched its best start in school history with a 59-14 win over Kansas on Saturday.

Petty completed 20-of-32 passes for 430 yards and Lache Seastrunk rushed for 109 yards and a score for the Bears (7-0, 4-0 Big 12), winners in 11 straight dating back to last season.

"It all starts with the guys up front. I don't think I was even touched tonight, and when you have that kind of confidence, to know you can sit there and go through your progressions, it makes my job a lot easier," said Petty. "Plus, I have some of the most talented players in the nation lining up next to me. They make me look a lot better than I do them."

Tevin Reese caught four passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns, Shock Linwood finished with 106 yards and a pair of scores on nine carries and Glasco Martin rushed for 55 yards and a TD in the win.

The Bears, who started 7-0 in 1980, will have a week to rest and prepare for their big meeting against nationally-ranked Oklahoma on Thursday Nov. 7.

Jake Heaps was just 7-for-19 passing for 85 yards and a touchdown pass to Rodriguez Coleman, who caught two passes for 75 yards for the Jayhawks (2-5, 0-4), losers in four straight.

"They have a lot of fire power and it hurt early. Not only are they good on offense but their defense played pretty salty against us. We never really could protect the defense early in the game by having our offense stay on the field," said Kansas head coach Charlie Weis.

Baylor scored the first 45 points of the game, including 38 over the first 30 minutes.

Petty connected with Reese for a 62-yard touchdown just under six minutes into the game to get the scoring started.

The Bears struck nearly two minutes later on Seastrunk's 29-yard run.

Martin broke off a 14-yard touchdown run to cap a seven-play, 82-yard drive with just under four minutes remaining in the opening frame.

Petty ran it in from five yards out 2:11 into the second to make it 28-0.

Aaron Jones' 30-yard field goal with 4:34 left in the first half gave Baylor a 31-0 lead before Petty added a 25-yard TD completion to Reese with two minutes left for a 38-0 lead at the break.

Petty and the Bears kept it going in the third with a 49-yard touchdown strike to Corey Coleman put Baylor ahead 45-0, 3:42 into the second half.

The Jayhawks got on the board with just under five minutes left in the third. On 3rd-and-5, Brandon Bourbon broke off a 22-yard touchdown run along the left side to make it 45-7.

Linwood's 4-yard touchdown plunge put Baylor on top 52-7.

Heaps found Coleman for a 30-yard touchdown 3:46 into the final frame and Linwood exploded for a 68-yard TD run to account for the final difference.
