Sep 5, 2010 - 4:46 AM BALTIMORE(AP) -- Kemar Scarlett kicked four field goals and the Morgan State defense forced five turnovers and a safety as the Bears defeated Bowie State 14-7 in their season opener Saturday.

Scarlett kicked field goals of 39 and 44 yards in the first half after fumble recoveries, and added kicks of 33 and 46 yards in the fourth quarter. He missed a 47-yard attempt in the second quarter.

The Bears trailed 7-3 with 2:54 left in the second quarter when Bowie State's Rodney Webb scored on a 10-yard run. Morgan State then drove 36 yards in seven plays to the Bowie 26, and Scarlett made his second field goal just 15 seconds before halftime.

Morgan State held the Bulldogs (0-2) to 73 yards total offense, including minus-33 rushing with the help of four sacks. Morgan State intercepted three passes and recovered two fumbles.
