Weeden and Blackmon lead Oklahoma State rout of Baylor

Nov 7, 2010 - 1:23 AM Stillwater, OK (Sports Network) - Brandon Weeden threw for a school-record 435 yards and three touchdowns and set a school record with 34 completions on 42 passes as 19th-ranked Oklahoma State trampled 22nd-ranked Baylor, 55-28, at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Coming off a one-game suspension stemming from a DUI arrest, Justin Blackmon led all receivers with 173 yards and a score on 13 catches, while Bo Bowling added 101 yards on nine receptions for the Cowboys (8-1, 4-1 Big 12), who have won two in a row since their lone loss to Nebraska on October 23.

Colton Chelf and Josh Cooper each posted a TD reception, Kendall Hunter scored twice on the ground and Blackmon added a 69-yard touchdown run for Oklahoma State, which racked up an all-time best 725 yards in total offense.

"It was a good win for us and it was probably the most complete game that weve played as a team since (Texas) Tech," said OSU head coach Mike Gundy. "It was much more explosive than that. The offense was very good and had one of those days where everything worked. The defense was excellent. I thought that as good as the offense was, I thought the defense was even better in the first half. They didn't have any points at halftime, so that's excellent."

Robert Griffin was 30-of-48 for 267 yards and one interception for the Bears (7-3, 4-2), who had won three in a row since a loss at Texas Tech.

Jay Finley and Terrance Ganaway each recorded a pair of rushing touchdowns, with the former striking for 91 yards on 18 carries and the latter gaining 60 yards on six totes. Kendall Wright and Terrance Williams each had eight receptions in defeat.

Oklahoma State's first drive of the game proved successful, as Dan Bailey booted a 23-yarder. A fumble on the following drive by Baylor wideout Josh Gordon was recovered at the Bears' 37, and the Cowboys converted when Weeden connected with Blackmon for a five-yard strike.

"Justin was extremely embarrassed last week. I noticed him on The Walk today and he spent the entire 500 yards of that walk over there touching all the hands of the little kids and the Oklahoma State people and he has not done that before," Gundy noted of his star wideout. "The only thing he can do now is to continue to contribute to this team and this university and do the right thing. That's what he did this week and that's why he played well."

Hunter's one-yard run capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive and gave OSU a 17-0 edge early in the second quarter. Hunter added another one-yard scoring run with under five minutes to play in the half and the home team led by 24 at the break.

The rout continued in the third quarter, as Blackmon raced 69 yards for a touchdown and Bailey hit another 23-yard field goal for a 34-0 advantage.

Finley's nine-yard TD run finally got Baylor on the board with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter, but before the end of the period, Weeden unloaded a 62- yard scoring pass to Chelf and Finley added a two-yard rushing score.

Cooper hauled in a 20-yard pass from Weeden less than four minutes into the fourth for a 48-14 game, then after Ganaway posted his first TD run of the game -- a 28-yarder -- Justin Gilbert returned the kickoff 93 yards.

Ganaway's seven-yard scamper to paydirt with 4:09 to play capped the scoring.

"I'm very confident that we'll be able to (rebound from the loss)," Griffin said. "I told the offensive line right before halftime that I promise, myself, that we wouldn't be in this situation again and I'm proud of the team because we never stopped fighting and put 28 points up on the board. Obviously, it wasn't enough and it was a little bit too late, but the fact that we still went out there and played hard was big for me."

Blackmon reached the 100-yard receiving mark for the eighth straight time, tying the school mark originally set by Hart Lee Dykes in 1988...Baylor, which got its offense untracked in the second half, racked up 464 yards of total offense...OSU leads the all-time series 17-12, and has beaten Baylor five straight times...The Bears failed in their quest to win four straight conference games for the first time since 1986-87, when they played in the defunct Southwestern Conference.
