Oklahoma hosts Iowa State in matchup of struggling teams

Oct 10, 2006 - 9:25 PM Iowa St (3-3) at No. 23 Oklahoma (3-2), 12:30 pm EDT

NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) - A pair of Big 12 Conference teams in need of a victory meet Saturday when No. 23 Oklahoma hosts Iowa State.

Oklahoma has lost two of its last three games and is coming off a 28-10 loss to Texas in the annual "Red River Rivalry" showdown in Dallas.

Paul Thompson completed 15-of-27 passes for 209 yards but Oklahoma (3-2, 0-1 Big 12 South) committed 11 penalties for 72 yards and turned the ball over five times as it blew a 10-7 halftime lead.

The Sooners are 44-2 at home under coach Bob Stoops and will need a big game from running back Adrian Peterson to continue that success. Peterson ran for 109 yards and a touchdown against Texas but needed 25 carries to do it.

Iowa State (3-3, 0-2 North) is coming off a 28-14 home loss to Nebraska, its third defeat in four contests. The only win in that span was a 28-27 triumph over Division I-AA Northern Iowa on September 30.

Bret Meyer threw for 262 yards and a TD but the Cyclones were limited to 53 yards on 24 rushes while the Cornhuskers rolled up 251 yards on the ground.

Oklahoma leads the series, 65-5-2, and has won nine straight since a 33-31 loss in 1990.
