Texas looks to continue domination of Baylor

Oct 10, 2006 - 10:42 PM Baylor (3-3) at No. 6 Texas (5-1), 7:00 pm EDT

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - Texas will be hard-pressed to top its 2005 performance against Baylor.

The sixth-ranked Longhorns look to post their ninth straight victory over the Bears when they meet in a Big 12 Conference contest on Saturday.

Last year, Texas went into Waco and crushed Baylor, 62-0. The Longhorns, who collected 645 yards on the rout, have outscored the Bears by 392-58 in their eight meetings under coach Mack Brown.

Texas (5-1, 2-0 Big 12 South) is coming off a 28-10 victory over Oklahoma in their annual "Red River Rivalry" matchup in Dallas.

Redshirt freshman Colt McCoy had a mature performance, throwing a pair of third-quarter touchdowns as the Longhorns overcame a 10-7 halftime deficit.

Texas has won 24 consecutive Big 12 home games and is 20-0 in home games against intrastate opponents under Brown.

The only other team in the division undefeated in league play, Baylor (3-3, 2-0 South) is coming off a 34-31 triple-overtime triumph at winless Colorado.

After Ryan Havens gave Baylor the lead with a 22-yard field goal, freshman linebacker Joe Pawelek ended the contest with an interception in the end zone to give the Bears consecutive Big 12 wins for the first time since the formation of the league in 1996.

The Bears have forced a national-best 19 turnovers this season and have recorded 48 takeaways since the start of last season, also tops in the country.
