Alabama rolls past Chattanooga

Nov 23, 2013 - 11:27 PM Tuscaloosa, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alabama was not caught looking ahead to next week's showdown at Auburn.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide thrashed FCS foe Chattanooga, 49-0, on Saturday.

AJ McCarron threw two touchdown passes on his way to becoming Alabama's winningest quarterback. He earned his 36th win, breaking a tie with Jay Barker.

McCarron had 171 yards on 13-of-16 passing before he was removed after leading the Crimson Tide (11-0) on a touchdown drive to begin the third quarter.

"We came out and handled business like we were supposed to," McCarron said.

Kenyan Drake had 77 yards on 11 carries and was one of four players to score a rushing touchdown.

The Crimson Tide and Tigers will clash in the Iron Bowl on Nov. 30, with the winner clinching the SEC Western Division title.

The Alabama defense suffocated Chattanooga, holding the Mocs (8-4) to 175 total yards and eight first downs.

"I thought our guys played hard," said Chattanooga head coach Russ Huesman. "You play a great football team. You feel disappointed in losing a game, but Alabama has done that to a lot of people this year, last year and the previous year."

Terrell Robinson completed 10-of-15 passes for 82 yards with one interception.

The Mocs went three-and-out to begin the game, but Christion Jones fumbled on the punt return, giving the ball back at the Alabama 34. Chattanooga went for it on fourth down from the 29 and Trey DePriest picked off Robinson's pass.

Alabama reached the end zone on its first possession, as Kevin Norwood's 50- yard reception set up Drake's 13-yard TD run.

The Crimson Tide scored three second-quarter touchdowns to go into halftime up 28-0.

Derrick Henry rushed in from five yards out, Jones returned a punt 75 yards to the end zone, atoning for his earlier gaffe, and McCarron hit Norwood for a 28-yard strike.

McCarron then hooked up with Amari Cooper for a 38-yard TD in the third, and Chris Black rumbled 31 yards for a touchdown on the next Alabama drive.

Dee Hart added a 6-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
