Snelling helps Cavaliers beat Tar Heels for 13th straight time
Oct 20, 2006 - 5:36 AM CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Virginia extended its dominance over North Carolina in one of the nation's oldest rivalries.Jason Snelling ran for a touchdown and Chris Gould added three field goals as the Cavaliers posted a comfortable 23-0 victory over the Tar Heels in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
Virginia (3-5, 2-2 ACC Coastal) had a 370-182 advantage in total yards and forced three turnovers to pick up its 13th consecutive win over its conference rival. It was the 111th meeting between the two teams - the fifth-oldest series in Division I-A.
Snelling ran for 131 yards on 19 carries and capped the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run with 12:03 remaining.
The Cavaliers had three drives of 10 plays or more in the first half that stalled in North Carolina territory. Gould converted a field goal on each possession to give Virginia a 9-0 lead at intermission.
Jameel Sewell completed 17-of-25 passes and scored a rushing touchdown for the Cavaliers.
Ronnie McGill had 72 yards on 16 carries for the Tar Heels (1-6, 0-4 Coastal).
