Carpenter, Herring fuel Arizona State's rout of Stanford

Oct 21, 2006 - 11:45 PM TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Rudy Carpenter threw only one incomplete pass and Ryan Torain and Keegan Herring both scored a pair of touchdowns as Arizona State rolled to a 38-3 victory over Pac-10 Conference patsy Stanford.

Carpenter completed 14-of-15 passes for 160 yards, including a 27-yard pass to Torain to open the scoring less than five minutes into the contest.

Torain added a two-yard TD run in the second quarter and Herring scored on runs of eight and six yards in the third period to make it 31-0.

Torain finished with 17 carries for 90 yards and two catches for 32 yards, while Herring accumulated 30 yards on nine rushes.

Nate Kimbrough caught three passes for 42 yards and Zach Miller added four receptions for 32 yards for the Sun Devils (4-3, 1-3 Pac-10), who had lost three straight games.

Anthony Kimble led Stanford (0-8, 0-5) offensively with 11 carries for 83 yards. T.C. Ostrander was just 7-of-25 for 66 yards with an interception as the Cardinal converted only 3-of-14 third downs and were outgained, 381-145.

Ostrander made his first start in place of senior Trent Edwards, who suffered a broken right foot last week against Arizona.
