After heartbreaker, Nebraska looks to pick up the pieces

Oct 24, 2006 - 7:48 PM No. 20 Nebraska (6-2) at Oklahoma St (4-3), 3:30 pm EDT

STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Ticker) - Instead of coming off a monumental victory, Nebraska is looking to rebound from a crushing defeat.

Minutes away from an upset victory over Texas before a turnover and last-second field goal resulted in a two-point loss, the 20th-ranked Cornhuskers travel to Stillwater to vent their frustrations on Oklahoma State in a Big 12 Conference matchup.

Nebraska cannot let itself be down for too long following its 22-20 home loss, as it still controls its own destiny in the Big 12 North Division and could earn a rematch with the Longhorns in the conference title game.

The road to Kansas City starts Saturday for the Cornhuskers (6-2, 3-1 Big 12 North), who play their third game way from Lincoln in four weeks. Nebraska is tied with Missouri for the North lead and hosts the Tigers next week.

Nebraska ranks 11th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 34.9 points, and a big reason why is quarterback Zac Taylor. A senior, Taylor has thrown for 1,824 yards and 16 TDs with just three interceptions this season.

Oklahoma State (4-3, 1-2 South) is coming off a tough loss of its own, a 34-33 overtime setback to No. 22 Texas A&M.

The Cowboys, who have lost three of four, led by a touchdown with 3:24 remaining in regulation but gave up a tying score with three seconds left and lost when Jason Ricks' extra-point attempt was blocked in the extra session.

Nebraska has dominated the series, holding a 36-3-1 advantage.
