Auburn looks to avoid upset at Mississippi

Oct 24, 2006 - 8:00 PM No. 7 Auburn (7-1) at Ole Miss (2-6), 12:30 pm EDT

OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) - Auburn has not lost at Mississippi since 1992, and the Tigers do not appear to be in danger of a setback this year.

The seventh-ranked Tigers aim for their seventh straight road win over the Rebels when the Southeastern Conference rivals meet on Saturday.

Auburn (7-1, 4-1 SEC West) is 22-8 all-time against Mississippi, including 7-1 in Oxford. In the teams' last meeting here two years ago, the Tigers posted a 35-14 win to clinch the division title before the calendar had even flipped to November.

Last week, Auburn stepped out of conference play for a 38-13 home rout of Tulane. Brandon Cox completed 16-of-19 passes and threw three touchdowns and true freshman Ben Tate ran for 156 yards and a score in the romp.

After beating Vanderbilt here on October 7, the Rebels (2-6, 1-4 West) dropped back-to-back road games at Alabama and Arkansas.

In last week's 38-3 setback to the Razorbacks, the Rebels allowed Felix Jones to return the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and never caught up.

On Monday, Rebels coach Ed Orgeron dismissed junior linebacker Garry Pack for a violation of team rules and indefinitely suspended sophomore linebackers LeRon King and Robert Russell, sophomore defensive end LaMark Armour and sophomore defensive lineman Hayward Howard, also for a violation of team rules.
