Ryan, BC try to thump struggling rival Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Matt Ryan and Boston College would like nothing better than to add to Notre Dame's woes this season.

Ryan and the fourth-ranked Eagles try to remain undefeated this season when they visit rival Notre Dame, which finally has a win.

Last week, Boston College improved to 6-0 for the first time since 1942 with a 55-24 win over visiting Bowling Green.

A Heisman Trophy candidate, Ryan completed 24-of-32 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns in three quarters of work for the Eagles, who led 52-10 entering the final period.

Notre Dame (1-5), meanwhile, finally got in the win column this season with an unexpected 20-6 triumph at UCLA last weekend.

The Irish - who outscored the Bruins 17-0 in the second half - intercepted four passes and made three fumble recoveries, with linebacker Maurice Crum returning one 34 yards for a touchdown to close the scoring late in the third quarter. The rivals have not met since 2004, when Boston College edged the Tyrone Willingham-coached Irish here, 24-23, on a last-minute touchdown.

Boston College has won the last four meetings.
