Kentucky looks for easier contest vs. Mississippi State

Oct 27, 2007 - 11:31 AM Mississippi State (4-4) at No. 14 Kentucky (6-2) 12:30 pm EDT

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- After three brutal contests in a row, Kentucky coach Rich Brooks would love a blowout victory this weekend.

Brooks' 14th-ranked Wildcats hope to have an easier go of it when they host Mississippi State in a Southeastern Conference matchup on Saturday.

Kentucky (6-2, 2-2 SEC East) won its first five games before coming up short at South Carolina on October 4, 38-23.

The Wildcats rebounded with one of the biggest wins in program history, upsetting No. 1 Louisiana State in triple overtime, 43-37. But Kentucky could not outscore Florida last week, falling 45-37.

Heisman Trophy candidate Andre' Woodson threw for 415 yards and five touchdowns, but the Wildcats allowed Gators counterpart Tim Tebow to toss four TDs and run for another.

Mississippi State (4-4, 1-3 West) has lost back-to-back contests, including a 38-13 setback at West Virginia last week in a non-conference matchup.

Anthony Dixon and Christian Ducre each ran for a score, but the Bulldogs were limited to 45 yards on 33 carries in a game in which they were down 28-0 after one quarter.

Kentucky edged Mississippi State on the road last year, 34-31. Two years ago, the Wildcats beat the Bulldogs here, 13-7.
