Tebow, Florida look to rout Florida Atlantic

Nov 17, 2007 - 12:00 PM Florida Atlantic (5-4) at No. 14 Florida (7-3) 12:00 pm EST

GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- If Tim Tebow can produce seven touchdowns against a Southeastern Conference rival, imagine what he could do against a team from the Sun Belt.

Having completed SEC play, Tebow and No. 14 Florida look to rout Florida Atlantic at "The Swamp" on Saturday.

Tebow nearly singlehandedly led the Gators to a 51-31 rout of host South Carolina last Saturday. The sophomore Heisman Trophy candidate threw for a career-high 304 yards and two touchdowns with an interception and ran for 120 and five TDs, accounting for all seven Florida TDs.

Tebow's 42 total TDs broke the SEC record set by Gators quarterback Danny Wuerffel in 1996, and his 19 rushing TDs tied the conference mark.

Despite the emphatic win, the Gators sit third in the SEC East and only can reach the conference title game if Georgia loses to Kentucky and Tennessee falls to either the Wildcats or Vanderbilt.

Florida Atlantic, which sits second in the weak Sun Belt, had lost three of four games before edging Arkansas State at home last weekend, 34-31.

Rusty Smith overcame two interceptions to throw for 268 yards and three TDs for the Owls, who trailed by 11 points entering the fourth quarter.

FAU took the lead on a six-yard TD toss from Smith to DiIvory Edgecomb with 2:49 to go.

The teams will be meeting for the first time.
