Texas looks to keep Big 12 streak alive vs. Oklahoma State

Oct 31, 2006 - 9:34 PM Oklahoma St (5-3) at No. 4 Texas (8-1), 7:00 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - Fourth-ranked Texas doubtless would prefer not to have to climb out of a three-touchdown hole this week.

After a dramatic victory, the Longhorns aim for a 21st consecutive Big 12 Conference win when they host Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Last weekend, defending national champion Texas (8-1, 5-0 Big 12 South) fell behind Texas Tech, 21-0, before storming back for a 35-31 triumph in Lubbock.

Redshirt freshman Colt McCoy led the comeback effort, throwing four touchdowns and racing for a clinching first down with just over a minute to play. McCoy subsequently was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.

Oklahoma State (5-3, 2-2 South) also is coming off a comeback road victory. The Cowboys rallied from an early 16-0 deficit to beat then-No. 20 Nebraska, 41-29.

Dantrell Savage rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the first minute of the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys have had trouble putting away the Longhorns the past few years. Oklahoma State held halftime leads in each of the past three meetings, only to get blown out in the second half. The most memorable collapse came here two years ago, when the Cowboys held a 35-7 lead before surrendering 49 unanswered points.

"Obviously, I would like to be in that position again," Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. "I think what we will do is just not go in at half time. I think we will just stay out. If you go to some high school games, they do not go in the locker room at halftime, they just go in the end zone. If we have the luxury of being up 28 points or however much we have been up, we are just going to stay on the field and talk about things."
