California looks to avoid trap at Arizona

Nov 7, 2006 - 9:31 PM No. 8 California (8-1) at Arizona (4-5), 3:30 pm EST

TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) - California coach Jeff Tedford may have some difficulty keeping his team focused for this weekend's game.

The eighth-ranked Golden Bears aim for a ninth straight victory Saturday when they visit Arizona in a Pac-10 Conference contest.

Cal (8-1, 6-0 Pac-10) leads the conference and visits second-place and seventh-ranked Southern California next Saturday.

The Golden Bears beat UCLA at home last weekend, 38-24. Nate Longshore threw three touchdowns and Marshawn Lynch both ran for and caught a TD for Cal, which also received a Pac-10-record fourth career punt-return score from sophomore DeSean Jackson.

Arizona (4-5, 2-4) has won two of its last three games, including a 27-17 upset of then-No. 25 Washington State last Saturday.

After missing two games with a concussion, sophomore quarterback Willie Tuitama returned to the lineup and completed 10-of-17 passes for 159 yards, a touchdown and an interception for the Wildcats, who were paced by running back Chris Henry's two rushing TDs.

Cal has won the last three meetings, including a 28-0 blanking last year.
