Dean makes two fourth-quarter FGs as Clemson beats NC State

Nov 11, 2006 - 10:26 PM CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Jad Dean delivered when Clemson needed him.

Dean booted a pair of fourth-quarter field goals as the Tigers posted a 20-14 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over North Carolina State.

True freshman C.J. Spiller rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on just 18 carries for the Tigers (8-3, 5-3 Atlantic), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Clemson jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a 52-yard scamper by Spiller in the second quarter and a nine-yard TD toss from Will Proctor to Tyler Grisham early in the third before North Carolina State tied the game on a one-yard run by Toney Baker and a 34-yard interception return by defensive end Willie Young midway through the period.

But Dean gave the hosts a 17-14 lead on a 26-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter, capping a 16-play, 78-yard drive that consumed nearly 7 1/2 minutes. He added a 31-yard field goal with 1:10 remaining to cap the scoring after linebacker Nick Watkins intercepted a pass by Daniel Evans at the NC State 16.

Evans was sacked on 4th-and-2 at the Clemson 30 with two seconds left. He completed just 10-of-24 passes for 95 yards with two interceptions for the Wolfpack (3-7, 2-5).

Proctor went 15-of-24 for 146 yards, a TD and two interceptions.
