Cornish runs wild as Kansas tops Kansas State

Nov 19, 2006 - 1:16 AM LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Jon Cornish rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns and Kansas took advantage of an assortment of turnovers in a 39-20 victory over Big 12 Conference rival Kansas State.

Cornish carried 25 times, including a 13-yard TD run in the first quarter to give Kansas (6-5, 3-4 Big 12 North) a 10-3 advantage. He added a 12-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth to cap the scoring.

The Jayhawks were leading, 13-10, in the second quarter when Russell Brorsen recovered a fumble by Wildcats quarterback Josh Freeman in the end zone to make it a two-score game.

That was one of six turnovers on the night for Freeman, who was just 23-of-44 for 244 yards. He threw three interceptions, lost three fumbles and was sacked four times.

Kerry Meier went 11-of-23 for 108 yards and two picks for Kansas, which got four field goals from Scott Webb and a 42-yard interception return for a score from Anthony Webb.

Leon Patton rushed for 102 yards on 14 attempts for Kansas State (7-5, 4-4 North), which was unable to build off its stunning 45-42 upset of Texas last weekend.
