Nebraska tunes up for Big 12 title game vs. Colorado

Nov 22, 2006 - 12:45 AM Colorado (2-9) at No. 23 Nebraska (8-3), 3:30 pm EST

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) - Nebraska coach Bill Callahan may be tempted to empty his bench Friday.

The 23rd-ranked Cornhuskers look to avoid any serious injuries Friday when they conclude Big 12 Conference play against Colorado.

Nebraska clinched the Big 12 North Division title with a 28-27 triumph at Texas A&M on November 11.

Trailing by six points, the Cornhuskers blocked a 42-yard field-goal attempt with 1:57 left and Zac Taylor threw a nine-yard touchdown to Maurice Purify with 21 seconds to go, clinching their first division title since 1999.

Nebraska (8-3, 5-2 Big 12 North) will face either Texas or Oklahoma in the conference title game. The Longhorns, who edged the Cornhuskers in Lincoln, will win the Big 12 South with a victory over Texas A&M earlier Friday.

Colorado (2-9, 2-5 North) also has been off since November 11, when it posted a 33-16 home triumph over Iowa State.

Bernard Jackson threw two touchdowns and ran for another score for the Buffaloes, who snapped a three-game skid.

Colorado is trying to avoid just its third 10-loss season in 117 years of football. The Buffaloes went 1-10 in both 1980 and 1984.

The road team has won the last four meetings.
