USC looks to reach BCS title game with win over UCLA

Nov 28, 2006 - 9:08 PM No. 2 USC (10-1) at UCLA (6-5), 4:30 pm EST

PASADENA, California (Ticker) - Southern California is four quarters away from a third straight berth in the BCS title game.

The second-ranked Trojans look to set up a meeting for the national championship with No. 1 Ohio State when they visit UCLA in the regular-season finale for the Pac-10 Conference rivals.

USC (10-1, 7-1 Pac-10) leapfrogged Michigan for the all-important No. 2 slot in the BCS standings following a 44-24 home rout of Notre Dame last weekend.

John David Booty overcame two interceptions to throw three touchdowns to Dwayne Jarrett and ran for another score for the Trojans, who jumped out to a 21-3 lead and cruised thereafter.

Michigan and Florida are hoping USC will stumble, but the Trojans have won seven straight meetings with the Bruins.

UCLA (6-5, 4-4) has not played since a 24-12 triumph at Arizona State on November 18.

Patrick Cowan threw a pair of TDs to Brandon Breazell for the Bruins, who have won back-to-back contests after a four-game skid.
