Steelers sneak past Eagles

Aug 9, 2008 - 2:46 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Ben Roethlisberger may have looked sharp in his preseason debut, but with his team's quarterback depth suddenly in doubt, the Steelers are happy he exited in good health.

Roethlisberger engineered a touchdown drive in his lone series of action, helping the Steelers to a 16-10 victory over the intrastate rival Philadelphia Eagles at Heinz Field on Friday.

The Steelers capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive when Roethlisberger connected with Santonio Holmes on a 19-yard touchdown strike. Roethlisberger finished 2-for-2 for 38 yards.

Jeff Reed kick three field goals for the Steelers (1-0), including a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter.

The victory, however, was not all good news for the Steelers, who lost backup quarterback Charlie Batch to a fractured right collarbone midway through the second quarter.

In what looked like a botched play, Batch was tackled by Eagles strong safety Sean Considine after running for six yards. Batch stayed in for one more play before being replaced by Dennis Dixon, the Steelers' fifth round pick from Oregon.

Donovan McNabb played well for the Eagles, going 10-of-13 for 97 yards in two series. He completed a three-yard scoring pass to fullback Jason Davis early in the second quarter for Philadelphia's lone TD.
