Jags beat Browns on Shorts' TD catch

Dec 2, 2013 - 1:11 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Chad Henne found Cecil Shorts for a 20- yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds left to lift the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 32-28 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

As the Jaguars trailed 28-25, Joe Haden bit on a double move by Shorts to leave him wide-open for the touchdown.

Henne completed 22-of-40 passes for 195 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Shorts had six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown while Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor both added a receiving touchdown for Jacksonville (3-9), which has won three consecutive road games for the first time since the 2007 season.

Browns receiver Josh Gordon became the first player in NFL history to have back-to-back games with 200 or more receiving yards. Gordon had 237 yards receiving against the Steelers last Sunday and 261 yards on 10 catches with two touchdowns against the Jaguars.

"Individually it's great, but if it was one of those individual sports, then I could accept that. As a team we have to do a lot better, we have to get over that hump." said Gordon about reflecting on his record setting two weeks.

Brandon Weeden completed 24-of-40 passes for 370 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Willis McGahee added a rushing touchdown and 57 yards on 14 carries for the Browns (4-8), who have three straight and six of seven.

Gordon missed the most of the third quarter after a big hit. He returned in the fourth in a big way and with 4:09 remaining caught a 95-yard touchdown to put the Browns up 28-25 before Shorts' game-winning score.

With 12 minutes left in the third Gordon went to the locker room to go through the NFL concussion protocol following a Winston Guy personal foul that knocked off Gordon's helmet.

With 7:47 to play in the fourth a bad snap forced Weeden to kick the ball out of the back of the end zone to earn a penalty and award the Jaguars two points on a safety, which made the score 22-21 Jacksonville.

After a 31-yard Ace Sanders kick return to the Browns' 43-yard line, Josh Scobee put through another field goal for the Jaguars from 25 yards out.

Turnovers bit the Browns to end the first half, as they committed three in the final three minutes -- two interceptions and a fumble, all by Weeden.

With 2:47 left in the first half Johnathan Cyprien made the first pick, which led to a Jaguar touchdown pass from Maurice Jones-Drew to Lewis for eight yards.

Only 1:28 later Dwayne Gratz stole another pass thrown by Weeden. Jacksonville didn't waste the opportunity and Scobee followed up with a 44-yard field goal.

With 14 seconds to play in the half Jason Babin caused a fumble which Sen'Derrick Marks recovered, and again Scobee put the ball through the uprights from 36 yards this time for 13 unanswered points and the lead, 20-14, going into the half.

"It could be that, but we just can't turn the ball over. Whatever the negative energy, or momentum, whatever that it is, we just can't do it. It's the main thing we preached all week, protecting the ball, and we have to do a better job of that." said Cleveland tight end Jordan Cameron about the turnovers in the second quarter.

The Browns' first drive of the second half paid off with a Weeden pass to Greg Little for a 4-yard touchdown. After a terrible end to the first half they were able to swing the momentum and take the lead 21-20.

Cleveland was in control for the remainder of the third quarter until a 3rd- and-6 when Weeden was sacked by Babin and Paul Posluszny to push the Browns just far enough back so that Billy Cundiff couldn't make a 53-yard field goal.

The first quarter saw little action as McGahee charged across the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown. The run was set up by a Gordon 42-yard reception.

With 7:04 left in the first quarter Henne found Harbor for an 18-yard touchdown pass, which tied the game at seven.

The Browns and Gordon put the next points up on the board with a 21-yard touchdown catch with 12:03 left in the first half to make the score 14-7.
