Kaepernick: TMZ story is 'completely wrong'
Apr 11, 2014 - 4:16 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick responded to allegations concerning an incident at a Miami hotel last week and called the story written by TMZ on Thursday "completely wrong."A Miami police report connects Kaepernick and two other NFL wide receivers with a woman who said she woke up in a hospital bed after spending time with the players and doesn't remember how she got there.
TMZ.com reported Thursday that Kaepernick was being investigated for a possible sexual assault. The police report makes no mention of an assault.
"The charges made in the TMZ story and other stories I've seen are completely wrong," Kaepernick wrote on his Twitter account Friday. "They make things up about me that never happened.
"I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up.
"I want to thank all of the people who have shared their encouraging sentiments. I assure you that your faith is not misplaced."
According to the police report, the woman says she visited the Miami apartment of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette on April 1 at the Viceroy Hotel, where she mixed drinks for Kaepernick, Lockette and 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton.
The woman says she was told in order to take shots she had poured, she first had to smoke marijuana. After feeling lightheaded, she went to a bedroom to lie down and Kaepernick followed her.
The woman says she and Kaepernick kissed, but didn't have sex. She says she was naked in bed when Lockette and Patton opened the door and "peeked" inside and she yelled at them to leave.
She says the two players closed the door and left and she doesn't remember anything after that. The woman, who told police she had a sexual relationship with Kaepernick in the past, said she doesn't remember how she got to the hospital.
TMZ cited sources as saying no charges have been filed and the investigation is in its early stages.
The 49ers responded to the report with a statement saying the club is "in the process of gathering the pertinent facts."
Kaepernick led the 49ers to the Super Bowl after the 2012 season and to the NFC Championship Game last season. Lockette appeared in 10 total games for the Seahawks in 2011 and 2013 and Patton played in six games last season for the 49ers.
