Manning, Colts take on Titans

Sep 16, 2007 - 11:08 AM Indianapolis (1-0) at Tennessee (1-0) Sunday 1:00 pm EDTNASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Indianapolis Colts areaccustomed to starting quickly.Coming off an impressive performance in their season opener, theSuper Bowl champions face the AFC South rival Tennessee Titanson Sunday.The Colts looked very much like a team ready to defend theirtitle, kicking off the 2007 season with a 41-10 rout of the NewOrleans Saints on September 6.Peyton Manning was his usual self, completing 18-of-30 passesfor 288 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the scores went toPro Bowl wide receiver Reggie Wayne, who finished with sevenreceptions for 115 yards.It also was a big performance for Joseph Addai and the Colts'much-maligned defense. Addai rushed for 118 yards and a TD,while the Colts didn't allow a touchdown and scored one of theirown on Matt Giordano's 83-yard interception return in thefourth quarter.Indianapolis improved to 15-2 in the last five-plus seasons inSeptember. The Colts started 13-0 in 2005 and won their firstnine games last season.Fast starts are something that have eluded the Titans, who arelooking for their first 2-0 start since winning their firstthree contests in 1999. Tennessee reached the Super Bowl thatseason, losing to St. Louis.It was a surprising start for the Titans, who used their groundgame and effective defense to post a 13-10 win at Jacksonvillelast Sunday.Chris Brown led the way offensively against Jacksonville,rushing for a career-high 175 yards on 19 carries. LenDaleWhite also churned out 66 yards on 18 carries as Tennesseerushed for a franchise-record 282 yards.Brown and White will test the Colts, who contained the Saints'duo of Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister. Bush and McAllistercombined for just 76 yards on 22 carries.The Titans were able to win their opener despite a sub-parperformance from Vince Young, who went just 11-of-18 for 78yards and an interception. He also managed just 22 rushingyards but did score a touchdown.Last December, the Colts failed to contain Young, who threw for163 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 78 yards. But itwas Rob Bironas' 60-yard field goal with seven seconds left thatgave the Titans a dramatic 20-17 win.Manning threw for 166 yards and two scores as the Colts escapedwith a 14-13 win over the Titans in the first meeting betweenthe teams last season.
