Ravens go for third win in row vs. Browns
Sep 30, 2007 - 12:23 PM Baltimore (2-1) at Cleveland (1-2) Sunday 1:00 pm EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Brian Billick just may stick with his quarterback-by-committee approach.
The Baltimore Ravens seek their third straight victory when they hit the road to face the Cleveland Browns in an AFC North contest.
Billick has replaced starter Steve McNair with Kyle Boller twice in the first three games of the season.
The first came out of necessity after McNair re-aggravated a groin injury in a season-opening 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Boller entered in the final five minutes and led the Ravens (2-1) on what appeared to be a tying touchdown, only to see it negated by a questionable offensive pass-interference penalty.
After McNair sat out a 20-13 win over the New York Jets in Week Two, he returned to start against the Arizona Cardinals and efficiently guided the Ravens to a 17-point lead in the third quarter.
Billick pulled McNair early in the fourth quarter, only to see Arizona storm back to tie the game.
Boller remained in and led the winning drive that was capped by Matt Stover's 46-yard field goal as time expired for a 26-23 victory.
"It could be a huge problem if you let your egos get involved," Billick said of switching QBs. "But Steve has one agenda, and that's to win. The numbers, the stats, all the things we've talked about - he doesn't care. He's all about winning, and I appreciate that."
The Browns (1-2) didn't wait as long as Billick to make a quarterback switch. Coach Romeo Crennel yanked Charlie Frye in the second quarter of the season opener, then traded him to Seattle two days later.
Derek Anderson inherited the starting job and turned in a magnificent performance in his first start of the season, throwing for five touchdowns in a wild 51-45 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
There was a marked drop-off in Anderson's performance in Sunday's 26-24 loss at the Oakland Raiders. He was 18-of-37 for 248 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Running back Jamal Lewis, who spent six seasons with Baltimore, faces his former teammates for the first time.
Lewis carved up the Bengals for 216 yards but was limited to 56 on 15 carries by the Raiders.
The Ravens swept the season series last seasons, winning in Cleveland, 15-14.
