Saints hope to keep it going against Falcons
Oct 21, 2007 - 10:29 AM Atlanta (1-5) at New Orleans (1-4) Sunday 1:00 pm EDTNEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- The New Orleans Saints finally got in the win column and look to continue the momentum.
The Saints seek their second straight victory when they host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in an NFC South matchup.
One of the biggest disappointments in the first quarter of the season following a trip to the NFC Championship game in 2006, New Orleans snapped a four-game losing streak with an impressive 28-17 win in Seattle on Sunday night.
It was the first time the Saints surpassed 14 points this season and helped them maintain a pulse in the NFC playoff chase.
Drew Brees completed 25-of-36 passes for 246 yards and two touchdown passes, helping the Saints to a 28-10 halftime lead. He was not intercepted or sacked in the contest.
Reggie Bush accounted for 97 yards on the ground and 141 overall to help New Orleans snap out of its season-long funk.
Now the Saints get a most welcome opponent in the Falcons, a team they swept in 2006, outscoring them, 54-16.
Atlanta is off to an awful start under first-year coach Bobby Petrino.
The Falcons' woes continued with a 31-10 loss to the New York Giants on Monday night, the fourth game in which they were held to 13 points or fewer.
When Michael Vick plead guilty to federal dogfighting charges, it forced Joey Harrington into the starting quarterback position.
Harrington finished 18-of-39 for 209 yards and an interception as the Falcons failed to put up points against the Giants after scoring on their first two drives of the game.
The only bright spot for Atlanta was a 67-yard scoring run by Jerious Norwood that gave the team a 10-7 first-quarter lead.
