Titans host Jaguars in matchup of AFC South rivals
Nov 11, 2007 - 11:53 AM Jacksonville (5-3) at Tennessee (6-2) Sunday 1:00 pm ESTNASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - The Tennessee Titans ran roughshod over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week One.
On Sunday, the surprising Titans look for their fourth straight win when they host the AFC rival Jaguars.
In the season opener, the Titans thrashed the normally stout Jaguars' run defense for a mind-boggling 282 yards en route to a 13-10 win. Chris Brown led the way, rushing for 175 yards and a touchdown.
But Brown may not be part of the Tennessee backfield this week. He has missed the last three games with an ankle injury.
With Brown sidelined, Titans coach Jeff Fisher has been relying on LenDale White, who has rushed for at least 100 yards in three straight games. Fisher has pounded the ball with White, who has carried 83 times in the last three games.
The Titans have needed their running game since quarterback Vince Young has been ineffective. The second-year signal-caller, who has just a 61.5 rating, has yet to throw for 200 yards in a game this season. He completed 11-of-18 passes for 78 yards and an interception in the first meeting against the Jaguars.
Defense has been a major reason why the Titans are just a game behind the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South. The Titans rank second inthe league in points (15.5) and yards (270.8.
Last Sunday, the Titans sacked David Carr seven times in a 20-7 win over the Carolina Panthers. Albert Haynesworth had three of the sacks.
This contest amounts to a huge one for the Jaguars, who already are a game back of the Titans in the division.
Jacksonville is hoping that quarterback David Garrard, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury, can return to the lineup. He is expected to practice later this week.
Quinn Gray, who has been filling in for Garrard, threw for 354 yards and two touchdowns with three intercetptions in last Sunday's 41-24 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Jacksonville struggled with its pass defense, allowing 435 yards through the air.
