After bad loss, Steelers hope to continue Monday night dominance
Nov 26, 2007 - 11:26 AM Miami (0-10) at Pittsburgh (7-3) 8:30 pm ESTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) - After an inexplicable loss, the Pittsburgh Steelers hope to create some more Monday night mayhem.
The Steelers seek an NFL-record 13th straight Monday night home victory when they host the winless Miami Dolphins.
Pittsburgh (7-3) is currently tied with the Oakland Raiders, who won 12 straight Monday night home affairs from 1970-1985. The Steelers' last home loss on the day came in 1992.
This will be Pittsburgh's second Monday night appearance of the season at Heinz Field. On November 5, the Steelers routed the Baltimore Ravens, 38-7.
In that game, Ben Roethlisberger tossed a career-high five touchdowns, tying the Steelers' record held by Mark Malone and Terry Bradshaw.
All three of Pittsburgh's losses this season have come on the road, including last week's 19-16 overtime defeat to the New York Jets, who had dropped their last six games.
New York's Thomas Jones rushed for 117 yards on 30 carries, becoming the first running back in 35 games to surpass 100 yards against Pittsburgh.
But while the Steelers have struggled on the road, they have been nearly unbeatable at home, outscoring their five opponents by a combined margin of 143-53.
Pittsburgh's closest call at Heinz Field came two weeks ago, when it held on for a 31-28 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Last week's loss sliced Pittsburgh's lead over the Browns to one game in the AFC North.
The Dolphins (0-10) remain the league's only winless team, and it is hard to imagine them getting their first win against a Steelers' team that figures to be in an angry mood.
Miami has come close in recent weeks, suffering 13-10 losses to the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles last week, 17-7.
Miami is the first team to start a season 0-10 since the Detroit Lions opened the 2001 campaign with 12 straight losses.
Dolphins rookie quarterback John Beck struggled in his first start last week, completing just 9-of-22 passes for 109 yards.
Miami's offense could have more trouble against the Steelers, who lead the NFL in total offense, yielding only 236.2 yards per game.
