Edwards, Bills trying to pad AFC East lead
Oct 21, 2008 - 9:04 PM Buffalo (5-1) at Miami (2-4), 1:00 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- Trent Edwards is not showing any lingering effects from his concussion.
Edwards hopes to give the division-leading Buffalo Bills some breathing room in the AFC East when they visit the rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Edwards provided most of the electricity at Ralph Wilson Stadium last Sunday, returning from a concussion and leading the Bills to a 23-14 victory over the San Diego Chargers in a bizarre contest that feature multiple power outages.
The game was delayed for 15 minutes after three helium balloons got entangled across the street from the stadium, causing a power outage. The power was off and on for much of the game, but none of it fazed Buffalo, which remained in the driver's seat in the AFC East.
Edwards, who was knocked out early in the Bills' 41-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in their previous game, completed 25-of-30 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown.
"We could have gone out there and laid an egg but we didn't," Edwards said. "We stepped up, we made plays when we needed to. We're not up here talking about how the electricity lost us a football game."
The Dolphins are trying to avoid a third consecutive loss. They suffered a 27-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday.
Chad Pennington passed for 295 yards and a touchdown, but threw a critical interception in the second quarter that was returned for a score by linebacker Terrell Suggs.
The famed "Wildcat" formation was largely ineffective last week, producing no big plays as Ronnie Brown was held to 27 yards and 13 carries.
