Reversing mini-skid goal for Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Just when the New York Jets appeared headed to a division title, they came crashing back to the pack.

The Jets will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host the fading Buffalo Bills on Sunday in an AFC East matchup.

Following a five-game winning streak that was capped with victories over the New England Patriots and then-unbeaten Tennessee, New York had seized control of the AFC East.

The Jets scored 34 points against both the Titans and Patriots and averaged 33.8 points during the winning streak as Brett Favre settled in nicely with the offense.

But just when talk started of an all-New York Super Bowl, the Jets landed with a thud, suffering consecutive losses to Denver in Week 13 and at San Francisco, 24-14, last weekend.

Favre finished just 20-of-31 for 137 yards and an interception against the 49ers, who sacked him three times to drop the Jets back into a three-way tie with New England and Miami atop the division.

"We've lost our last two games, but we're still in good shape," Favre said. "But if we continue to play like this, we won't be."

Also of concern for the Jets is the play of their defense, which has been carved up for 357 and 285 passing yards in the past two games.

The 49ers, despite losing star tailback Frank Gore to injury, controlled the ball for nearly 40 minutes against New York.

"Obviously, we need to improve things that we're doing, in terms of how we're attacking, how we're defending and how we're conveying that information," Jets coach Eric Mangini said.

Fortunately for New York, the Bills have completely unraveled, losing six of their last seven games after starting the season 4-0.

Buffalo was inept in last weekend's 16-3 loss to Miami in Toronto, managing just a field goal for the second straight week.

J.P Losman, filling in for an injured Trent Edwards, threw for 123 yards with an interception and lost a fumble in his first start of the season. Marshawn Edwards rushed for only 31 yards.

"We're just struggling offensively," Bills guard Duke Preston said. "You can't put your finger on it but it's Week 14. It's tough to say you don't have any rhythm."
