Klinkhammer lifts Blackhawks past Wild
Sep 26, 2009 - 4:04 AM CHICAGO(AP) -- Rookie Rob Klinkhammer deflected in Brent Seabrook's shot from the right point with 5:20 left in the third period to help the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on Friday night for their first preseason victory.Patrick Kane scored his first two goals of the preseason, Colin Fraser also scored, and Tomas Kopecky had two assists for the Blackhawks (1-2-1).
Martin Havlat, the former Chicago player who led the Blackhawks with 77 points last season, had a goal and assist for the Wild (2-4-0). Havlat joined Minnesota as a free agent after the Blackhawks signed free-agent Marian Hossa from Detroit.
James Sheppard and Brent Burns also scored for Minnesota.
Chicago's Cristobal Huet stopped 16 shots. Minnesota's Josh Harding made 28 saves, including several on point-blank chances.
Sheppard opened the scoring 8:57 in, connecting from the edge of the crease after taking Havlat's centering pass from behind the net.
Burns made it 2-0 on a drive from the top of the slot with 4:53 left in the first. Kane cut it to 2-1 just under 2 minutes later, beating Harding on a short-handed breakaway.
"Today assistant coach Mike Haviland came up to me and said, 'You're going to be killing penalties,"' Kane said. "I said, 'Yeah, whatever.' When you get a goal like that, it can turn the game around a little bit."
Kane tied it at 2 during a power play 1:45 into the second by sliding in a rebound from the right side of the crease. Fraser gave Chicago a 3-2 lead with 7:14 left in the period on a one-timed shot from the slot.
Havat tied it at 3 2:30 later when his shot from the right circle deflected off Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith and past Huet.
Chicago will play two exhibitions against Swiss league teams in Zurich on Monday and Tuesday, then open the regular season with a pair of games against the Florida Panthers in Helsinki on Oct. 2 and 3.
