Kings halt Colorado's win streak at six games

Dec 22, 2010 - 5:23 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Jonathan Quick stopped all 23 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season, as the Los Angeles Kings blanked the Colorado Avalanche, 5-0, at Pepsi Center.

Dustin Brown recorded two goals and two assists for the Kings, who finished their five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 mark and will host Edmonton on Thursday. Brad Richardson, Rob Scuderi and Justin Williams also scored in the victory.

"Overall, this road trip was a tough one, but (winning) three out of five games is not bad," said Brown. "This is one of the best defensive games we've played in some time."

Craig Anderson allowed all five goals on 32 shots for Colorado, which was shut out for the first time this season and in the process saw its six-game win streak halted.

The Kings opened the scoring at 12:26 of the first period on Scuderi's first goal of the season. He maneuvered his way into the lower right circle and sent a backhander through traffic and past Anderson.

At the 6:31 mark of the second stanza, the visitors moved ahead by two on Richardson's fifth goal. Drew Doughty held control at the centerpoint and faked a shot to move around a Colorado defender, then skated toward the outer rim of the right circle. Doughty fired a centering pass, which was redirected into the net by Richardson from the top of the crease.

Less than eight minutes into the final frame, the Kings made it 3-0. Anze Kopitar drove to the net from the right wing and his stuffer from in close was saved, but the rebound sat loose in the crease and Brown was there to punch it home over the sprawled-out Anderson at 7:27.

"They create all their chances from playing good defensive hockey," said Anderson about the Sharks. "They control the puck from their defensive zone, and they created good opportunities all game."

Brown struck again with 4:57 to play in regulation with a wrister from the slot before Williams capped the scoring at 17:49 on the power play with a laser one-timer from the left circle.
