Hiller shines, Ducks top Coyotes
Dec 29, 2010 - 8:09 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Luca Sbisa scored his first career goal and Jonas Hiller made 31 saves to backstop Anaheim to a 3-1 victory over Phoenix at Jobing.com Arena.Joffrey Lupul and Corey Perry also tallied for the Ducks, who put the brakes on a two-game slide. Anaheim has claimed three of the first four meetings in the six-game season series.
"I thought the first period we were better than we were in the second period," Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said. "We started turning the puck over in the second period and it gave them momentum."
Shane Doan notched the only goal for the Coyotes, who have dropped three out of four.
Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 21 shots in defeat.
Saku Koivu sent a backhand pass to the left point, where Sbisa blasted it past Bryzgalov to open the scoring 4:38 into the game.
Lupul's wrist shot from below the right circle less than four minutes later made it 2-0 before a giveaway led to Perry beating Bryzgalov with a wrister from the lower left circle with 4:40 remaining in the opening session.
Phoenix finally got on the board with 4:21 to go in the middle period when Doan wristed the rebound of a Ray Whitney shot past Hiller.
"Let's face it, our last few games we haven't been lighting up the scoreboard," Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett said. "So to go down three early, that's a big climb back for us. Our execution and what we're doing is not enough."
