Dallas manhandles Atlanta

Jan 16, 2011 - 7:21 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Trevor Daley and James Neal each tallied twice as Dallas pulled away late for a 6-1 win over Atlanta at American Airlines Center.

Adam Burish and Jeff Woywitka also potted goals for the Stars, who got two assists apiece from Brad Richards, Jamie Benn, Mike Ribeiro and Stephane Robidas in winning for a third straight contest and fifth in six tries.

Dallas' special teams played a big part in the win, as it went 3-for-5 on the power play and killed off three Atlanta man advantages.

"To get power-play goals is huge," Daley said. "Special teams is a big part of our game today. To get that going and get a win is fun."

Kari Lehtonen stopped 29 shots and added a helper for Dallas, which has won three of the last four meetings between the teams.

Andrew Ladd notched the goal for the Thrashers, who have dropped four in a row and been outscored 24-9 in the process.

"They're a top team, and I thought we did a pretty good job but right now we're not good enough," Ladd said. "We've got to find a way to get wins and get points."

Chris Mason stopped the three shots he faced before leaving with a lower body injury in the first period. Ondrej Pavelec took over and yielded all six goals on 24 shots to absorb the loss.

Dallas struck first when Benn's pass bounced off an Atlanta skate back to Daley at the point and his shot made it through traffic past Pavelec to put the Stars ahead 9 1/2 minutes into the opening session.

Atlanta got on the board 6:21 into the second period when Ladd wristed a shot past Lehtonen to tie the game.

The Stars then scored twice in the final half of the period to grab the lead for good.

Burish tipped in a Robidas shot with 6:02 to play to put the hosts back on top before the Dallas netminder started the play that led to the next goal.

Lehtonen's outlet pass was taken by Ribeiro at center ice and his pass sent Daley down the right side. The seventh-year defenseman then ripped a wrister top shelf far side to beat Pavelec to push the lead the lead to 3-1 with 55 ticks to go in the period.

Dallas then scored three times in the final half of the third period to put the game away.

Neal took a return feed from Loui Eriksson on a 2-on-1 and stuffed it past a moving Pavelec to make it 4-1 with just under nine minutes remaining.

Neal and Woywitka scored in the final three minutes and change to tip the scales in favor of a lopsided win.
