After further review, Flames best Canucks in SO

Jan 23, 2011 - 8:06 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - It took a while to decipher, but Alex Tanguay was credited with the winning shootout goal as the Calgary Flames edged the Vancouver Canucks, 4-3, at Rogers Arena.

After Ryan Kesler missed the net to begin the third round for Vancouver, Tanguay flicked a backhander that got lost in the equipment of Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo, whose momentum propelled him over the goal line.

Although the officials initially ruled no goal, a video review overturned the call and assured the extra point for Calgary.

"I didn't know where the put was," Luongo said of last goal. "We seem to be ending up on the wrong end of one-goal games."

Brendan Morrison, Curtis Glencross and Tim Jackman tallied for the Flames, who have won four of their last six games. Miikka Kiprusoff made 41 saves.

Alexander Edler lit the lamp twice for Vancouver, which has dropped four games in a row -- the last three coming after regulation. Luongo stopped 30 shots.

Jackman gave Calgary a 3-2 lead at the 6:42 mark of the third period. Mikael Backlund carried the puck across the Vancouver blue line before dropping a back pass to Adam Pardy, who fired a shot that Luongo turned away. However, he misplayed a rebound that Jackman put home.

Vancouver pulled even on Kesler's short-handed goal at 9:33.

Both teams failed to convert a power play in overtime.

Edler opened the scoring 3:32 into the contest, but goals by Morrison and Glencross 20 seconds apart gave the Flames a 2-1 advantage midway through the first period.

The Canucks tied it when Edler struck again at 1:13 of the middle frame.
