Oilers rout Avalanche

Feb 24, 2011 - 5:37 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Devan Dubnyk made 38 stops and the Edmonton Oilers controlled the Colorado Avalanche, 5-1, at Pepsi Center.

Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle both posted a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who have won four of their last five. Kurtis Foster, Dustin Penner and Sam Gagner also lit the lamp in the win.

"It's awesome when we have a goaltender that keeps us in it," said Hall. "It keeps us loose and we look forward to scoring for him. When I got that goal it felt good."

Milan Hejduk scored the lone goal for the Avalanche, who failed to build on Tuesday's win over the St. Louis Blues, which snapped a 10-game losing streak. Brian Elliott allowed all five goals on 31 shots.

"I felt we got the monkey off our back last night," said Hejduk. "We started good, we just could not bury one. Their power play was really good tonight."

Penner got the scoring started with 5:43 left in the first on the power play with his 21st goal of the year and Gagner scored on a quick shot from in front at the 7:08 mark of the second for a 2-0 lead.

Hall was at the right side of the net to poke home a rebound off an Eberle shot for another power play goal at the 15:49 mark of the second, but Colorado countered with a power-play goal of its own as Hejduk's quick shot from the right circle beat Dubnyk with 2:24 left in the middle frame.

Eberle scored on a wrister from the right circle that beat Elliott cleanly with 8:52 left in the game and Foster's goal less than two minutes later capped the scoring in the contest.
