Sabres slip by Sens in SO

Nov 6, 2011 - 7:23 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Derek Roy scored to cap the sixth round of a shootout, giving Buffalo a 3-2 triumph over the Ottawa Senators.

Thomas Vanek and Brad Boyes also scored during the shootout, while Roy and Jordan Leopold netted goals in regulation for the Sabres, winners of two in a row.

Jhonas Enroth made 25 saves and stopped an attempt from Bobby Butler, just before Roy's winner.

Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza scored in the shootout phase. Michalek and Erik Condra tallied during regulation for the Senators, losers of three straight.

"They got lucky in the shootout," Michalek said. "We have to keep learning from this and be confident."

Craig Anderson made 31 saves, but couldn't hold off Roy, who wristed a shot into the top right corner of the net to end the contest.

Michalek scored with 4:19 left in the first when he split defenders and used a backhand to get the puck into the net.

Roy's tip-in off a shot from Ville Leino came at 10:39 of the second, and Leopold gave the Sabres the lead just over two minutes later.

It didn't last, as Condra was sent ahead on the breakaway and netted his first of the season at the 14:13 mark of the second.
