Rangers top Senators for fifth straight win

Nov 10, 2011 - 4:31 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Marian Gaborik scored a pair of goals, as the New York Rangers downed the Ottawa Senators, 3-2, to record their fifth straight victory.

Derek Stepan added a goal and two assists, while Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots for the Rangers, who have not lost since falling to the Senators on October 29.

"First of all we had a good forecheck and kept our legs moving," said Gaborik. "Second of all, when we get the puck, guys are confident to make a play. We are winning the battles, getting in their first, and I think that's how we created our goals."

Milan Michalek and Nick Foligno scored for the Senators, who have lost four straight.

Craig Anderson stopped 16 shots in defeat.

Following a scoreless first period, the Senators took a 1-0 lead at the 8:39 mark of the second on Michalek's wrister past Lundqvist.

Less than a minute later, Ottawa turned the puck over in its own zone and Stepan and found Gaborik for a one-timer.

At the 11:38 mark, another Ottawa turnover allowed the Rangers to grab the lead.

Artem Anisimov secured the puck as it escaped from behind the net and put it on goal before Stepan knocked home the easy rebound.

Gaborik, who had a two-goal outing Sunday against Winnipeg, made it a 3-1 contest midway through the third.

On a two-on-one, he kept the puck himself and deposited a sharp wrister into the back of the net.

Later Bobby Butler dumped the puck into the Rangers' zone and Stephane Da Costa found Foligno in front of the net for a one-time goal, but the Senators got no closer.
