Final
Price, Habs blank 'Canes
Nov 17, 2011 - 3:53 AM Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Carey Price stopped all 25 shots he faced to post his first shutout of the season, leading Montreal to a 4-0 decision over Carolina at Bell Centre.Mike Cammalleri, Yannick Weber, Travis Moen and P.K. Subban all lit the lamp for the Canadiens, who have won three of their last four.
"The young guys behind me did the job," Price said of his young defense corps, five of which held less than 100 games of NHL experience. "I think communication was the biggest help tonight. We made sure that everyone was talking and we made sure that everyone knew where everyone else was."
Cam Ward surrendered all four goals on 36 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped eight of 10.
The Habs took a 1-0 lead at the 7:15 mark of the first when Cammalleri ripped home a rising shot off a Tomas Plekanec feed on the right wing.
It was 2-0 for Montreal on a power play when Weber's one-timer from the left circle slid between the left post and Ward's pad with 4:44 left in the first period.
Subban's first goal of the year put the home team ahead by three at 6:13 of the second period, then Moen banked a shot off Ward from behind the goal line with 38.2 seconds remaining for a four-goal bulge.
Price was tested just four times in the first period, then made eight stops in the second and 13 in the third.
"We didn't play. We got what we derserved," said Carolina forward Eric Staal There's no question there is concern in here. We have to get back to a winning formula at some point. If we keep losing we'll be out before you know it."
