Bruins torch Flames

Jan 6, 2012 - 4:43 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tuukka Rask made 25 saves for his third shutout of the season while 13 different Bruins recorded at least a point in Boston's dominating, 9-0, victory over the Calgary Flames at TD Garden.

Nathan Horton and Patrice Bergeron each had two goals and an assist, Tyler Seguin and David Krejci added a goal and two assists, and Benoit Pouliot had three helpers in Boston's ninth win in 10 games.

"I thought our team played real well tonight, obviously," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said. "For us it was a matter of coming out strong, establishing a lead early and then hopefully taking any hope away from them to even think it would be a game they could win."

Leland Irving started the game for Calgary but was pulled early in the second period after allowing six goals on 21 shots.

Miikka Kiprusoff then stopped 18-of-21 shots as the Flames had their losing streak extended to a season-worst five straight.

Three early Bruins goals over the first nine minutes of the game put Boston in control.

The first came just 1:14 into the opening period when Bergeron swooped around the back of the net before sending a pass to the slot from the left corner and Seguin one-timed the puck into the twine.

The next happened a little over two minutes later thanks to a fortuitous bounce off the Flames' Olli Jokinen.

Milan Lucic had the puck at the right point and attempted a cross-ice pass, but the puck caromed off Jokinen's skate a few feet away and sailed into the right side of the net as Irving shifted to the left looking for the pass.

Krejci then sent the Bruins into the first intermission with a three-goal lead while on the power play with a hard wrister from the left circle.

A trio of goals by Bergeron, Chris Kelly and Horton within the first five minutes of the second period extended the Bruins' lead and knocked Irving out of the game.

Horton added another tally with 5:29 left in the middle stanza when Dennis Seidenberg's slap shot from the point hit him in the leg in front of the net before Horton swiped it in for a 7-0 lead.

Bergeron spun the puck in from out front after a Seguin shot deflected off his leg and Daniel Paille converted on a shorthanded breakaway in the third to account for the final margin, while Rask made six saves in the final period to secure his 11th career shutout.

"It was embarrassing," said Flames captain Jarome Iginla. "They're a good team, but we were terrible tonight."
