Stars battle back, beat Coyotes in SO

Oct 26, 2011 - 6:03 AM Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Trevor Daley scored in the eighth round of the shootout to help the Dallas Stars escape Jobing.com Arena with a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Dallas nearly lost in regulation before Adam Burish scored the tying goal with 61 seconds showing in the third. Brenden Morrow sent a pass around the boards and hit Mike Ribeiro behind the net. Ribeiro somehow found Burish in front for the snap shot, silencing the home crowd.

"I just went to the net and put my stick down," recalled Burish. "[Ribeiro's] a magician with it, and I just know that more than likely the puck's going to come there. So I just waited and all of a sudden it snuck through."

Both teams had just two shots in overtime, and the first four shooters from each side failed to score in the shootout. Patrick O'Sullivan ended the drought, but Dallas' Michael Ryder extended things with a top shelf tally.

The goalies stepped up from there, and after Kari Lehtonen stopped Daymond Langkow, Daley beat Mike Smith with the game-winner.

Lehtonen made 33 saves in the win, which came three days after the club lost, 1-0, at Los Angeles.

Shane Doan and Raffi Torres scored for Phoenix, which got 34 saves from Smith.

Torres' odd-angle goal 7:18 into the first period was answered by Sheldon Souray on the power play a short time later.

Souray handled the puck unabated out front and let a slap shot fly from above the left circle that beat Smith up high on the short side.

Doan's 300th career goal at 8:13 of the third, a wrister from the left circle as he was falling to the ground, also came on the man advantage.

"It was nice to get it," Doan said of his 300th goal. "But we have to be better in a lot of different areas."
